From the Principal

Remote Days

Now that we have had three snow days, it is possible that the district will call for a remote learning day in the event of inclement weather. Obviously, remote learning is no substitute for in-person school, but having a remote day means that some learning can continue and that we don't extend the school year too far into summer vacation.

On a remote day, the student schedule would involve virtual class sessions from 10 to 2, with teacher office hours available after that. Families would receive an alert with more information, but rest assured that your students are already being prepped for how they would access their schedule, assignments, and virtual class meetings.

Family Feedback

Thank you to the ~20% of CRMS families who responded to our annual Family Feedback Survey. We got a lot of praise for being a caring, supportive environment and for having excellent teachers. Our office team also got praise for their demeanor and their communications.

We heard from you that families are not always able to discern from the WIPs or JumpRope what work their students need to be doing at home. A number of families asked for more homework and challenge while other families worried that the current level of expectation was higher than their student can achieve without additional support: an important needle for us to thread. There were also concerns from some about excessive behavioral expectations and from others about insufficient behavioral expectations: another important needle for us to thread.

We appreciate all the thoughtful feedback. These themes will inform our third trimester and our plans for next year. If you have something you want to add to the mix, please email jacob.giessman@fivetowns.net.

Scenes from Heart Healthy February!

Attention 6th GRADE Parents/Guardians:

Looking ahead to fall 2026 when your child begins 7th Grade, the State of Maine requires two immunizations for starting 7th Grade:

Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis)

1 Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV4)

Please be sure your child is up to date with immunizations prior to the first day of school.

Maine Immunization Records- Have you ever wanted access to your records? Read on.

Mainers can now view, download, and share their immunization records from Maine's Immunization Information System (IIS) using a health record mobile app called Docket® OR by clicking on this link from your computer: id.app.dockethealth.com/

About Immunization Records and Docket®

Docket® is an application that searches Maine’s Immunization Information System (IIS) using basic demographic information (name, date of birth, and sex) to display immunization record information on a mobile device. Phone number verification is required. The app displays vaccination history to anyone with a record in our IIS whose identity has been verified through the Docket® app. .

Use Docket® whenever you need to share immunization records, such as during school registration or childcare registration.

To get started, download the free app by searching "Docket®" on the Apple App Store or Google Play, or scan the QR code here:

5th Grade

5th Grade Field Trips for February

The 5th grade had an opportunity to take 2 field trips this month.

Our first field trip was to Erickson Fields, where we met Jared Norwood.( Jared works at Niweksok https://www.niweskok.org/leadership.) He is our own Mrs. Norwood’s , husband.

He helped guide discussions on reciprocity and responsibility to our land. We took time to walk around and found a quiet place to record our observations using our 5 senses. This work coincides with our Where I Live PBL.  Along with forest bathing, our own Mrs. Andersen created an amazing scavenger hunt that allowed us to dig deeper into the Wabanaki signage at Erickson.

Our second field trip was a walking field trip to see our ceramic cupcakes on display at Laugh Loud Smile Big Cupcakery. After seeing our display, we were off to the Page Gallery to see our work on “play” displayed.Shout out to Mrs. Andersen for her time and hard work helping us create our  ceramic cupcakes, as well as  arranging the display! A big thank you to Laugh Loud Smile Big Cupcakery for giving us each a delicious cupcake!

Technology Class

On Thursday, February 26th, sixth grade students in Mrs. Norwood’s Technology Skills class at CRMS welcomed a special guest from the Maine Department of Education to celebrate an exciting achievement. Jon Graham visited to officially unveil the finished t-shirt design and help distribute shirts created by our very own sixth grader, Hannah Smith.

The design was created as part of a class project in Mrs. Norwood’s tech class, where students learned about the design process and produced original graphics for a real-world audience.

Maine schools across the state, including CRMS 6th graders, will participate in the virtual MLTI Winter Classic Conference the week of March 2nd–March 6th, engaging in fun digital and unplugged learning challenges. An incredible 6,500 participants will receive and proudly wear a t-shirt designed by a CRMS student — a moment of pride, creativity, and innovation for our entire school community!
